Bassmead Manor Barns – Karoline & Chris
Karoline & Chris
Bassmead Manor Barns
At the end of November Karoline & Chris had the most beautiful Winter Wedding at Bassmead Manor Barns. Every little detail had been thought about. It was the first time I had seen the plate charges with the rose gold beading and they were just beautiful. They complimented Karoline’s colour scheme and vision perfectly.
I had photographed a wedding at Bassmead earlier in the year and the Bride had worn a Blue suede jacket for some of the photographs. Karoline loved them but to make the photos unique the jacket was a personalised ‘Mrs Bownam’ jacket. Fantastic!
On the day I felt like I was part of a friends wedding. Karoline and I had been exchanging lots of things over Instagram. I loved seeing her wedding develop with the snippets on her Stories.
In their own words
Where you first meet
We met at Long Road Sixth Form College back in 2008/9, but it wasn’t until the last year of university in 2012 that we got together. We were very close friends and I was worried that if we entered a relationship and it went wrong, that I would lose him as a friend. He persisted thankfully!
Who asked who and how
Chris asked me on our first holiday abroad where we went to Crete. It was the morning of 12th October 2017, the last day of our holiday and he asked me before we did anything that day – really intimate just the two of us. We had to go for a long walk along the beach after he asked me because I could not sit still! I was far too excited!
Wedding planning, good, bad and fabulous
Having 2 years to plan a wedding was excellent, it meant all the suppliers we wanted were available for our day and we could spread the cost. We had absolutely loads of help from our parents – particularly my mum Ingrid who did endless spreadsheets and visual table plans that helped enormously! Im a bit of a control freak so actually having suppliers I could trust to do a good job was really important to me (I went through 2 cake suppliers before I found the one!) My wedding shoes were a bit of an ordeal too – the first pair some of the bow was damaged, the second box they sent the completely wrong style of shoe and then they were out of stock… it was my bridesmaid La that saved the day – she found them available through another retailer! One thing that surprised me was that the biggest stress wasn’t from any of the wedding planning itself, it was the flood of questions coming in about 2 weeks before the big day – even “which tie should I wear” haha that really tested me!
How was day through your eyes?
The day through my eyes was magical, like something out of a fairytale. It was the romantic barn wedding I had been dreaming about since before I was even engaged.
What was your favourite part of the day
The ceremony was the absolute best bit for me, we had an unplugged ceremony and I’m so glad we did as it was so nice that everyone was completely present! I also will never forget how beautifully my brother David read the poem “The One” by Cheryl J Barclay, it made me cry.
Any tips you learnt along the way which may be useful for other brides
Yes! Don’t try and please everyone – I said no to several things I was told I had to have on my big day, to name a few – wedding favours, flower walls and photo booths – if you don’t want it at your day, don’t have it! It’s your day!
