Hertfordshire Wedding Photographer | South Farm | Marie & Matt
Marie & Matt | South Farm
South Farm is a Hertfordshire wedding venue that is so close to the Cambridgeshire border that I sometimes forget it isn’t actually in Cambridge. The farmhouse was in full bloom with its outstanding red roses climbing all over the front of the buttermilk building, and the summerhouse where the outdoor wedding ceremony was taking place beamed in the July sunshine.
With a giggle and an excited chatter, two Bridesmaids appeared from the car park carrying Marie’s Pronovias wedding dress and we all headed to the Bridal Suite. Matt and the boys were getting ready in the Old Dairy and adding the finishing touches of cufflinks and buttonholes.
There was such a fun atmosphere throughout the whole day, lots of laughs and giggles and not to mention crazy antics! Just look at the leap from the traction engine.
South Farm has so many amazing places to take photos that we were spoilt for choice. The meadow looked amazing with the last of the wildflowers still in bloom. We explored the kitchen garden and the willow covered bridge next to the Gypsy caravans. I’m not sure I have a favourite spot at South Farm, I think I just love it all.
Congratulations guys, wishing you much love and happiness together. Thank you for sharing your day with me xx
In their own words
Where did you first meet?
We went for a meal and it all went from there….
Who popped the question and how?
Matt – at our favourite spot at Wendover woods. We go on regular walks there but on one random Saturday, during October, he popped the question. I genuinely was so shocked, he really did surprise me!
Wedding planning, the good, bad and fabulous
I think we were mostly quite chilled tbh! I think the girls probably got many photos of different wedding rings as I couldn’t decide on that! We fell in love with South Farm immediately and they were amazing, my excel spreadsheet was my bible! It ensured we did everything we wanted to within the time frame we needed to. The girls called me Monica from Friends when I was going through how to decorate the barn with them the night before – but they got it done within a half-hour, I put that down to being a Monica! Dress shopping was so much fun – my mum and best friend Mags were so brutally honest but that’s what you need! The worst part of dress shopping is having to make a decision on the dress early on. CAKE – deciding on the flavours of this was so exciting as we both have sweet tooths and I hadn’t had cake for 6 months! Ultimately, I found, everyone who had been married had an opinion but we kept the day personal to us and that really helped us enjoy the lead up to the day and not get too stressed!
How was day through your eyes?
Absolutely perfect. We honestly wouldn’t have changed a thing. It was the best day. It was relaxed, fun, chilled, sunny, happy, personal, magical, beautiful. The day flowed really well and we had such a great time. It was great to have everyone we love sharing our special day with us.
What was your favourite part of the day
This is such a hard one – there were so many parts of the day we loved! Getting ready with our closest friends, walking down the aisle to the love of my life – to a song that’s personal to us that Matt’s brother recorded, having all our favourite people in the garden with us whilst we got married, the speeches – all three of them were absolutely amazing (my dad, Matt and his brother) – literally wasn’t a dry eye in the room, we all laughed lots and cried lots! and of course the partaaay with everyone at the end! Matt’s favourite moment was probably eating the scotch egg canape haha
Any tips you learnt along the way which may be useful for other brides or what would you change?
Choose your wedding ring and dress early on as most dress shops ask for at least 6 months and, with your ring, you want to allow time to make the right decision and not make a hasty decision. I had to have my specially made and it only arrived 2 weeks before the wedding. Remember the day is about you two getting married, that’s all! Enjoy the lead-up!
Who were your suppliers?
Hair – my friend Steph, Makeup – my sister, Photographer – you :-), Wedding Cake – Little Cake Kitchen, Florist – Julie Cambridge, Dress – Once In a Lifetime in Milton Keynes (Pronovias range), Band – Kingtastic
