Ely Cathedral Wedding – Kimberley & Charlie
As venues go, there aren’t many more special than Ely Cathedral – the light is stunning, the aisle is amazingly long (over 3 mins walk from bottom to top!) and the city itself is just gorgeous and so historic. It’s easy to see why Kimberley and Charlie wanted to get married there.
Kim got ready at her family home with Mum and Bridesmaids. They were videoing the day with a new concept to me, hired cameras from Shoot it Yourself. What a great idea, a DIY video service. Charlie had a more leisurly morning and enjoyed lunch wiht the boys at Poets House, just opposite the Cathedral.
I can’t believe how the sun shone down exaclty at the point where Kim was walking up the high altar to meet Charlie, it was perfect. Unlike the wind, gosh what a windy day. It was the aftermath of a very stormy day the day before where i think the marquee was rocking slightly.
Charlie’s family home was the venue for the marquee reception. A farm in the middle of the Cambridgeshire fens, and even a Corn field for us to play in later where we were great with a phenomenal sunset and even a rainbow.
In their own words
Where did you first meet
Long Road Sixth Form College – Introduced by Kim’s best friend Lottie Driver.
Who asked who and how
Charlie asked Kim while away in Pembrokeshire on Kim’s Birthday, after a lovely meal, Charlie surprised Kim by taking her to a shepherds hut in the hills with a hot tub!
Wedding planning, good, bad and fabulous
There was a lot more to do by having it at our own venue than we first realised and the storm the night before didn’t help us at all. Everyone pulled together and we had lots of fun along the way. All the hard work paid off as the day was so much fun and ran so smoothly and there was so much excitement too.
How was day through your eyes?
The best day of our lives by a long way. We had so much fun and so did all of our guests.
What was your favourite part of the day
Charlie – When I knew Kim was coming down the aisle behind me but I was waiting to see what she looked like. Kim – Walking out the Cathedral hand in hand with all our friends and family following. Joint – Dancing all night with the most amazing band and all our friends and family.
Any tips you learnt along the way which may be useful for other brides
