When a couple contacts me and tells me they are planning a South Farm Wedding, I inwardly have a little eeeeek of excitement. The perfect location between on the Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire borders with the most wonderful gardens and grounds. As a Storytelling wedding photographer, this is the perfect place to tell your wedding story.
Katy and Josh chose to get married in the Old Dairy on Friday 13th. Yep, Friday 13th. Now some people are superstitious but the 13th doesn’t have to be unlucky. My daughter was born on a Friday the 13th and had Katy and Josh managed to get the only Summer Friday left at South Farm. So the 13th is lucky for them.
The ceremony was emotional. A few tears were shed. I think that when emotions get the better of you during the ceremony it means that your love is strong and will stand the test of time. These two and their families love each other undoubtedly.
Guests enjoyed being in the garden soaking up the late summer sunshine while we snuck away for a few photos before the speeches. The Tudor Barn looked gorgeous and has wonderful views over the pigpen. We later headed in there to meet the latest litter of piglets. They are just so adorable, I love it when Brides are eager to go in there.
The late summer sunshine gave us some wonderful evening light for some couples photos around the meadow. It’s nice to wander around and have a few moments alone together. Weddings are such busy days, but they go by in such a flash.
Congratulations guys, it was a wonderful day and I loved being a part of it xx

We met online 6 years ago. Josh was the first (and last) person I met up with from online dating!
Josh asked me to marry him on my 30th birthday. He’d planned a surprise weekend away and proposed on an empty beach in Blakeney. The stoney beach hurt his knee but he assures me it was worth it!
The good: The research was fun – visiting potential venues (when else do you get to look around such amazing places!?), going to wedding fairs, trying on dresses… I also did a calligraphy workshop before writing out the place names by hand. I loved doing it and will continue calligraphy as a hobby. The bad: So many decisions! We are both quite indecisive people and this made wedding planning quite stressful sometimes! The fabulous: After we had chosen South Farm as our venue we were invited to a couples taster evening where we were able to try nearly all the food and wine they offer for the wedding breakfast. It was such a brilliant night and really helped us in choosing what to have on our menu. We have never eaten so many dishes in one evening and they were all delicious!
It couldn’t have been any more perfect. Everything and everyone looked amazing, the timings worked out really well, and we had such beautiful weather. Considering it was Friday 13th, we couldn’t have been luckier.
The ceremony. After all the build-up and getting ready separately in the morning, seeing each other and saying our vows to each other in front of all our loved ones meant a lot to both of us. It was so emotional, especially with heartfelt readings from my brother, Tom, and our nephew, William. It was a moment we’ll never forget.
It was difficult to keep track of everything we had to organise so we would recommend keeping and maintaining a big spreadsheet with all your stuff on it. There are also a number of wedding checklists you can get online to keep you on track – we used Bridebook which we referred to throughout our planning. It’s never too early to book your suppliers – it will take some of the pressure off to know you’ll have your pick. We thought our suppliers did a great job and would rebook them all. We would also advise not doing up your kitchen halfway through planning…
