Amanda & Paul | The Falcon Hotel Uppingham

Amanda & Paul | The Falcon Hotel Uppingham

On a rainy 27th July I  had the pleasure of photographing Amanda & Paul’s big day. They married at their local church near Peterborough and celebrated with family and friends at The Falcon Hotel Uppingham.

The rain certainly didn’t spoil their day, we embraced it. Out came the umbrellas both at the church and later in the day.  I always tell my brides not to stress about the weather. Give me rain over wind any day.

This was my first visit to The Falcon and it didn’t disappoint. It is a gorgeous 16th-century coaching inn right on the market square of the town of Uppingham, which is close to Rutland Water.  The wedding breakfast room looked just beautiful. The decorations were so pretty and stylish, Amanda had definitely put a bit of her personality into the day.

Congratulations guys, it was a wonderful day. Liz x

In their own words

Where you first meet

The Falcon Hotel, Uppingham 14/9/2013 at Debbie and John wedding – we just have to come back to celebrate our wedding here too.

Who asked who and how

Paul asked for my number and handed me his on a James Bond postcard (hilarious but it was part of the wedding theme). He then gave me his play money to play on the gambling table – never left my side since

Wedding planning, good, bad and fabulous

Mainly good and the best bit is we’ve met some wonderful people who it has been an absolute pleasure to work with. This was something I never anticipated and have had real pleasure in the planning part. I think the hardest part is understanding that some of your decisions lead you to having to do more work and things spiral quite quickly. There is very little we would change. The most fabulous thing was seeing our suppliers all working together as such a great team and enjoying what they do. This really added to our day.

How was day through your eyes?

Magical and wonderful. We both absolutely loved it. We were both extremely nervous in the build-up, but this all evaporated once we were at the church. We loved being with all our family and friends and decided that the rain had even helped. Everyone mingled so well and had such a great time which is what we both wanted.

What was your favourite part of the day

Taking our vows and then the surprise flash mob in the church (going to the chapel). Paul loved that I danced in the church too – ha ha. I also loved when all the hens and friends sang it again at the venue

Any tips you learnt along the way which may be useful for other brides

Decide on the style of wedding as early as possible. Decide what aspects are important to you – then you know which parts deserve more time. I underestimated the time needed to design all the stationery! Your groom needs to understand that you have a vision and he is best off just saying yes and accepting it will all cost a lot but will be so worth it. Trust the bride!
