If you’re looking for the perfect barn wedding venue close to the A1 and London, that can cater for up to 150 guests for your wedding breakfast, then you need to check out Bassmead.  I am a Professional Wedding Photographer based just over half an hour from this fabulous venue and have photographed many weddings here.  I promise you will fall in love with it as you drive up the long drive and view the Rickety Barn at the top.  If you don’t then the Bridge over the moat certainly will grab your heart.

ONE. Everything is in one place.

Avoid the stress of moving from home or hotel to the wedding ceremony and then reception by getting ready in the Boudoir.  There is a spacious dressing room upstairs decorated in calming cream tones and a spacious sitting room downstairs for enjoying a moment with your wedding party during the morning.  Bassmead is one of the only venues I regularly work at that has its own hairdressing station and fabulous make-up area.  Using this prep area means that you can keep the dressing area tidy and bag free, enjoying the space when it’s time to get your outfit on.

TOP TIP – Try and keep the dressing area free from bags, clothes and clutter.  Your getting ready photos will be so much nicer if this area is a tidy space.  Who wants a supermarket bag in the background.

TWO. A mix of Old and New.

Your ceremony will be held in the Rickety Barn. This stunning 300-year-old barn has original oak beams, wooden floors, cast-iron chandeliers and gorgeous stables doors leading you towards your wedding guests. The beams look fabulous decorated with fairy lights and the chairs and aisle are dressed with stunning blooms. The Moat Barn is where you will hold your drinks reception before heading out into the picturesque garden. More about the gardens in a bit.  Your wedding breakfast takes place in the Bridge Barn. This area is air-conditioned and flooded with beautiful natural light. Continuing the theme of beams, this barn is a neutral blank canvas that can be decorated to your style but really only needs the addition of gorgeous flowers

TOP TIP – Reuse your ceremony flowers in the Moat Barn as decorations and your bouquet and Bridesmaids’ flowers (if having them) as table centrepieces.

THREE. Where to have photos.

I personally like to use the secluded garden for the group photos.  Guests can mingle on the Patio, sit under the gazebo and everyone gets to enjoy the beautiful surroundings next to the Bridge and the huge Chestnut tree framing it.  A large group photo can be taken in the courtyard area while I lean out of the Boudior window.  Couples photos…. oh where to start, there are so many amazing places around Bassmead that you will be spoilt for choice. The Drive, the fields the bridge.

TOP TIP – There are loads of areas to use when the sun sets for your couple’s pictures too!

FOUR. Accommodation.

Not only do you have your own Honeymoon suite after the wedding on site but there are some guests rooms in Appletree cottage so your closest loved ones can also stay

TOP TIP – Keep the celebration going by having breakfast the next morning with everyone staying over

FIVE. Dance Dance Dance.

It doesn’t matter if you are having a Band, DJ or Ceilidh, because the Moat Barn gives you oodles of space to throw some dance moves and party the night away.

TOP TIP – If doing your first dance makes you shiver with nerves then start your dance with just the two of you and then at a point during the song ask your wedding party and parents to join you on the dance floor.  This will give you some moral support but won’t pack the dance floor too heavily giving your photographer a chance to get some great images of your first dance together.
