If I had to describe Lucy and Jay’s barn wedding in just one word it would be “fun”. If I could use two it would be “fun & colourful”.
I met up with Lucy and Jay for their pre-wedding shoot at Houghton Mill, which is a lot closer to me than it was for them. It is good that they both love sailing and everything outdoors, and don't mind getting a little bit wet. As we were finishing the session and heading back to the car, it started to rain, and it rained very hard! The road around the car park was more like a river. We would be needing the canoes to get to the car.
Lucy and Jay got married early in July. They had a church wedding followed by a reception at The Thatch Barn in Yelling, which is conveniently opposite the church. The wedding had an orange and purple fun theme and, since they are both Scout leaders, there were lots of Scouting influences in the wedding décor. I met up with Jay at the Barn after i had spent the morning with Lucy and the girls at The Belfy. This is where Lucy had her hair done and her stunning make up was done by the lovely Hannah Spendelow
Lucy managed to break with tradition and arrive early for her wedding, she was so convinced that her friends would be late that she told them it started half an hour earlier than it actually did. Needless to say none of them were actually late and Lucy ended up being very early!
The fun theme wasn’t reserved for the reception, the church was fun too. Lucy’s brother Simon gave a wonderful reading of Us Two from Winnie The Pooh, apparently he was very amused at being able to say Pooh in church! Lucy and Jay left the church to the sounds of Colonel Hathi’s March, it might not immediately sound familiar but it’s the tune that the elephants march to in the Jungle Book. If you’ve a minute to spare have a quick look online for it, now picture a bride & groom walking back down the aisle and I guarantee there will be a smile on your face.
After the ceremony it was across the road to The Thatched Barn at Yelling, a lovely venue that perfectly suited the relaxed and rustic feel of Lucy and Jay’s fun filled wedding. The Thatch Barn is owned and run by Sanchia, a lovely lady who is also a florist and created those beautiful vibrant bouquets and arrangements that you see in the pictures. You may recognise it from a couple of my other blogs. I do love it here.
Although the day started with a little rain it soon dried up and the sun shone in the afternoon, perfect timing for the outdoor games of Diablo, plate spinning and hooking a duck in a paddling pool.
Lucy & Jay, I just loved every fun filled minute of your day, thank you for having me as your wedding photographer xx
